Why Collagen is Important for Skin

deadseamudfaceCollagen is vital to the creation of beautiful skin.  It is the main protein that makes up the structure of the skin.  The way skin looks and feels is determined by the amount of collagen, and the condition of that collagen, in the skin.  One of the best ways to get collagen into the skin is with a collagen cream or collagen serum. Both the collagen cream and the collagen serum should use a hydrolyzed collagen to help get it through the skin or even hyaluronic acid which puts the skin’s ability to create collagen into overdrive.

Unfortunately, collagen breaks down as we get older.  There are several things than are known to cause damage to collagen.  One of the main culprits is the sun.  Some other factors that affect collagen are hormonal changes, environmental free radicals, nutrition, and smoking.  The amount of new collagen that is produced decreases with age.  This decreased production combined with damaged collagen leads to sagging skin, dropping  skin and wrinkling.  Collagen is what makes youthful skin look plump and healthy.

It would seem logical that you could make skin appear younger by just applying cream with collagen or colagen based skin products.  Unfortunately, there collagen applied through creams is not really small enough to penetrate the skin.  It is possible to have collagen injected into the skin.  This does work to plump the skin temporarily, but there are side effects.  Some people experience an allergic reaction because most collagen injections come from animal sources.  The effects of injections do not tend to last very long, with wrinkles returning soon.

The best way to get more collagen in the skin is to somehow increase collagen production.  There are some ingredients that have been shown to actually increase collagen production.  Some of the best collagen producers are Hyaluronic Acid, Matrixyl 3000, and Vitamin C.  A cream or serum with these ingredients may be able to produce natural collagen in the skin.  In turn, wrinkles can be reduced and skin will look fuller and younger again.
